Encinitas, California is a hidden gem along the coast just twenty-five miles north of San Diego and ninety-five miles south of Los Angeles. The city contracts with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department from the North Coastal Sheriff Station to keep the city safe and crime at a minimum. In 2008 the Environmental Commission was created to advise City Council on policies and projects that affect the local environment. The Environmental Commission has assisted in numerous projects including the Clean Water Program to protect and improve the quality of surface water in lagoons, creeks, and beaches in Encinitas.
Encinitas’ schools are managed by the Encinitas Union School District. All nine of the schools the District serves have been named California Distinguished Schools and of those nine, four are National Blue Ribbon Schools. Schools in Encinitas encourage innovative teaching and advanced programs that have led to high graduation rates in their high schools that range from 96%-99%.
